In Visual Designer V5+, the Comms Errors Overlay setting (The big red X’s that appear when I/O Device Comms drop) is disabled by default. To enable this, navigate to the file tab and select Project Properties. Under Runtime Options, there will be a checkbox that can be enabled at the bottom. [See images below]
